Creating a Family Room both Kids & Parents Enjoy

Until you have children, it’s hard to truly define what kind of space is needed for both the kids and parents to enjoy over the years. However, once you do, you then understand the need for a central space that suits everyone’s needs.

Comfortable

Whether it is the occasional guest who stops by or the family movie night, today’s spaces require re-configurable furniture. The couch is typically the foundation for the family room. However, depending on the age of your children, you will want pieces that can easily be moved around and utilized. Consider soft chairs, large cushions, ottomans and love seats to compliment the anchor sofa in the room as these will allow for everyone to have their space to stream a favorite show or simply build a fort in the middle of the room.

Organized

Let’s face it, toys such as building blocks, learning puzzles, and board games come with a lot of pieces. So it is essential to have attractive solutions to quickly gather up these collections and tuck them neatly out of the way. No matter what your style, there are storage bins to suit any taste. Add these bins and containers to shelves, inside cabinets, and under pieces like open sofa tables and media stands.

Adjustable

While you might only want to a comfortable seating area, your children may want to use this space for drawing, crafting, or other activities. Create an adjustable work area along the wall or in a corner that gives them an area for a desktop and chair(s). Combine with smaller bins for storing markers, crayons, etc. and craft paper.  Balancing your space to enable relaxation and creative activities will enable everyone to connect with this central part of your home.
