Cycling is a wonderful way to get out and enjoy the great outdoors with family or friends. Tualatin Valley offers a variety of cycling routes through beautiful scenery, along low-traffic roads, with places to stop along the way for some refreshment. All of this is just another reason to choose one of our new homes in Hillsboro Oregon, so you can take in all that this exceptional area has to offer.
The Banks-Vernonia State Trail is one of the best options, thanks to all 21 miles being fully paved and free of cars and featuring views ranging from rolling hills to shady forests. This officially designated recreation trail is ideal for the whole family, as there are shorter round-trip options within it to suit different abilities, thanks to different access points, many of which include basic repair tools. Multiple routes include the Buxton trestle bridge, with its stunning views of the tranquil Mendenhall Creek below.
The Banks-Vernonia State Trail is part of the greater Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway established in 2013. Covering 50 miles, you’ll find yourself passing through the beauty of nature and the charm of small towns. The opposite end of the Bikeway from Banks-Vernonia State Trail covers 30 miles, starting at the Rood Bridge Park in Hillsboro. Here you’ll find the Tualatin River and winding paths along peace country roads. Other scenery includes the Oregon Coast Range and the beauty and wildlife of the Tualatin River basin, as well as the Pioneer Cemetery, Old Farmington Schoolhouse, local wineries, and the downtown areas of Banks, Vernonia, and Forest Grove, ensuring a great mix of views and places to stop along the way.
Finally, there’s the Henry Hagg Lake Loop, a paved 10-mile ride that includes mountain views and an evergreen forest, with the lake almost always in sight. There are some ups and downs to keep things interesting, but the shoulder of these quiet main roads is wide for more comfort. You’ll find two bike hubs at the lake with an air pump, tools, and a bike stand should you need to do any quick repairs. Best of all, as it’s a shorter loop, you can finish off the day relaxing at the lake, either sitting back and enjoying the view with a picnic, taking a dip in the lake (personal flotation devices are available at park kiosks), or even do some fishing for bass, catfish, perch, and trout.
These are just a few of the many great cycling routes throughout the Tualatin Valley. They’re a fantastic complement to the new homes in Hillsboro Oregon that we’re building in Padgett Estates.
