How to Decorate Your Front Door for the Holidays

When starting the holiday decorating of your homes in Oregon City, make sure your front door looks festive and inviting. After all, your front door is part of that first impression, so get off to a great start with some easy ways to capture that holiday spirit.

A wreath is a classic and versatile decoration that can be decorated for the winter season, or for specific holiday cheer for Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza. An evergreen wreath with red berries is a classic, but you can also add some extra fun and style with frosted pinecones, Christmas tree baubles and ornaments, and ribbons in your choice of color. Look for ribbons with thin wiring to make it easy to add some shape and volume. For a different take on a wreath, consider a bunch of evergreen tree branches bundled and tied together at the base with a ribbon and then hung so the fragrant branches flow down.

There’s no reason to limit yourself to a wreath. Garlands that frame the door add a delightful touch. Use fresh greenery or lush artificial garlands. There are even some with pre-lit LEDs that create a warming glow. Weave some ribbon through the garland or add a selection of bows or ornaments to finish the look. Similarly, if you have porch posts, you could use the garland and lights to wrap around the posts for a festive result.

Even if you don’t use a garland, strings of lights around the door frame or porch columns add a cheerful touch. If you have space, consider a selection of lanterns from big to small with battery-powered candles or a string of battery-powered lights that fills the lanterns for more impact.

A fun way to add some festive cheer is with a holiday-themed doormat. Whether the mats feature cheerful messages or fun images, they add a subtle seasonal touch that can put a smile on people’s faces.

If you have the space, consider some other holiday accessories, such as potted evergreens, small sleds or sleighs filled with greenery and even some empty boxes wrapped up in gift wrap and ribbons. If you have young kids, or even grandkids who will be visiting, a holiday-themed sign or a “Santa, Stop Here!” plaque can make a welcome addition.

With these tips, your front door will be a festive masterpiece that brings holiday joy to all who visit. If you’re looking to buy one of the new homes in Oregon City soon, contact us today and we’ll help you make your dreams of a new home come true!
