As home builders in Vancouver WA, we have a variety of employees working to ensure you get a top-quality home that meets or exceeds your expectations. There are a number of people you’ll meet in the process, but others you may not come across, so we like to turn the spotlight on our amazing team when we get the chance. This time it’s Zach Gustafson, our Site Development Manager.
A site development manager manages the utilities and sitework-related activities on individual homesites. As Zach succinctly explains, “Finding quick solutions to complicated work.”
Zach has recently joined our team, but he’s been a part of the industry for many years and has plenty of experience in earthwork and utilities. He also has a Bachelor of Science in construction management and a minor in business administration from Washington State University.
Every day is usually different when it comes to new home construction, but there are basics to any typical day. For Zach, that involves determining which projects need the most attention that day to make sure new utilities go in on deadline. As he explains, “I communicate with contractors, utility purveyors, municipal agents, land developers. Every homesite requires utilities power, sewer/septic, storm, grading, water, gas, and communications, and it is my job to ensure that these utilities are estimated before construction; designed, engineered and permitted for construction, and then installed on each project in a timely, efficient, and sequential manner.“
Zach was born in Renton, raised in Kent, and has lived in Pullman and Covington, before settling down in Seabeck. As he proudly points out, “I am a fourth generation Washingtonian and have not been outside of Washington state for more than 1 week at any given time.”
Nowadays, when he’s not at work, he enjoys Wazzu Cougar Football, but the biggest joy is his kids. “I enjoy being with my three beautiful children and being the best dad that I can to them, by always being there for them, talking to them, and showing them a good time.”
Fortunately for us, he also enjoys his job. “I get to do something new every day, and get to learn something new every day. Every site is unique, challenging, and requires me to find unique solutions and strategies to overcome each and every challenge.”
That desire to keep learning is a great benefit to his goal of being able to share what he’s learned, be it from family, coworkers, or life experience. We’re proud to have Zach on our team of home builders in Vancouver WA and we’re happy to share a little about him so you know you have someone solid working on these important elements of your new home.
