Decorating Tips to Hide Kids’ Mess When Selling Your Home

That means making sure it looks its best at all times — or as quickly as possible – for those last-minute showings. If you have kids, then you have a bigger challenge with all of the toys, craft supplies, and more that can easily spread throughout the house. Here are some tips for ways to quickly hide as much of the kid clutter as possible and you can even incorporate it into your new home.

There’s likely a plethora of toys in the family room and while you don’t have to ban them from the room, you can make the most of any storage spaces you have, such as credenza cabinets and storage ottomans. These give you a way to quickly hide a variety of toys. If you don’t have the space, consider buying a couple of large attractive baskets with lids that can serve as quick storage, while looking like part of the room decor.

In your kids’ rooms, make the most of under-the-bed storage options with roll-out plastic bins that can hold everything from out of season clothing or toys. This is another item that you can use in your new home to help keep things organized.

If you know your child has a lot of toys that they don’t play with as often, consider packing them up to make space for the rest of them. If they do suddenly want a toy that’s packed up, you can always rotate toys in and out. This method also has the benefit of getting some of your packing done in advance so there’s less to do when it’s finally time.

Now is also a time to go through clothes and toys to see what can be donated or thrown away. You can always offer your kids a special outing if they are willing to get rid of a certain amount of toys, making the process a little more appealing to them.

Inevitably you’ll still have some toys out; just try to make them look as neat as possible, potentially adding a bit of whimsy to the space.
